Doc Ross – multiple personality disorder

In calling this show multiple personality disorder I was thinking back to a show I did at COCA some time ago that was titled ‘one man group show’ a title that reflected the rather diverse nature of the work I showed. Serendipitously covid lockdown came along and I spent time making self portraits which fitted in perfectly. I’ve always seen myself as a photographer/printmaker and my archive of photographs as a resource to mine in my printmaking, and this was the case with the lockdown self portraits.

The fact that I have this large archive of work, the great majority of which has never been exhibited, allows me in a way to curate shows of my own work from over long periods of time, an interesting and helpful process when thinking about new work. The majority of pieces I initially chose for this show are no longer in it, as I slowly added to the selection they no longer fitted, then the self portraits came along and even less fitted.

I see this years version of The Dr & the WASP as a look at the links between my past work and work to come, and an opportunity to somewhat shape an exhibition around how my work relates to Jason’s, and how it is on some occasions even shaped by his work.
