The Bay is Christchurch artist, Jessica Dick’s first solo exhibition, Jessica has just completed a three year diploma in Photography at Christchurch Polytechnic.

The focus of her practice throughout the past couple of years, has been to explore black and white landscape photography. Jessica’s preference has been to stay away from the highly saturated, fashionable landscape images. She have been more inspired and captivated by the imagery that was found around the time of the modernist photography movements such as the F64 group. Jessica likes to capture the moodiness and beauty of the landscape through strong simple images, creating an almost timeless feel. Having a strong connection to the water, most of her imagery is based around the shoreline and constructed by looking for mundane items that are usually overlooked in the environment.
