“Re-Form”

Re-Form explores the transformative potential of aluminium, a material that captivates me
with its remarkable flexibility. This quality allows me to transcend its flatness and shape it
into new, three-dimensional forms. My work consistently experiments with various shapes,
with a particular emphasis on curves. The gentle, calming quality of the curves invites
contemplation.
Each piece serves as a dialogue between material and emotion, as well as an interplay of
form and space. My choice of colour is predominantly influenced by the spontaneous nature
of the moment. Through these works, I invite viewers to experience the shift and
revitalisation that emerges from reimagining the familiar.

The therapy of space
The therapy of ‘space’, waxes and wanes between a placement of small cloth pieces, creating
exchanges of comfort and awkwardness.
Somewhat abrasive, notions of imperfection challenge our expectations of what should and should
not be. In the world of what is believed to be contemporary quilt making, these works never fit the
‘interpretations’ of subjective rules and quarrel, located in the history of ‘precision and convention’.
Daring to be different, my hands and ideas hopscotch through these works. The idea of diversionary
stitching becomes a ‘thing’, ‘a work’, ‘a quilt’, one that is flawed yet covets charm.

Striations and Secretions

My objective is to produce works that are primarily retinal and tactile in appeal. I work with corrugated card, making simple geometric constructions that are hardened with shellac, then overlaid with plaster and paint to activate and enhance surface interest. This results in a somewhat alchemic transformation where the soft base material acquires hardened metallic like qualities.

‘Striations and Secretions’ is a narrative representation of work produced last year where I continued to explore and extend ideas in various directions, while adhering to a geometric logic determined by the processes and materials involved.
