A continuation of the artist’s race against the clock to capture the nostalgic, otherworldly feel of incandescent street lights at night as the city shifts from the warm, orange lights to harsher, cold tones of an LED lamp.

Let it Be 2021

‘Let It Be’ comes from the idea of seeing a means as an end, the stand-alone aesthetic of the materials or elements in the picture. Two shipping containers at right angles to each other – the visual credibility of an element that is so common – particularly in post-earthquake Ōtautahi Christchurch – that they are almost unseen. The idea of ‘hiding in plain sight’ – four columns of demolished brick, concrete and paint exposed to the elements for may years now, yet with their own validity.
 
This is my second exhibition with this theme, with Silver1 and Grey3 being common to them both. The catalogue shows work from each.”

 

 

 

Kara Burrowes

Void  2021

Kara Burrowes is a multimedia artist; her process being experimental and intuitive. Kara likes to focus smaller subtleties, particularly emphasising the mundane and overlooked, referencing them and giving them a new life. Past work has often looked towards the urban environment for inspiration, but lately Kara has been exploring the concepts of ‘Void’ and ‘Absence’ while playing with materials and process. In doing so, her work emphasises ‘white space’, with her wooden works drawing attention to gaps and her paintings giving way to large expansive skies. The works are originally referenced from real landscapes and then abstracted and created by intuition and experimentation.
