Kate Cairns –  Sticks and Stones

My work speaks in a vernacular of regional new Zealand with a focus the natural
world. I explore the intimate narrative of family, connection and home, strongly
influenced by the landscapes in which I lived. I have a fascination with the precarious
nature of our existence and ideas around cultural history and consciousness of the
human condition.

Mark Soltero – Some Positions in Space and Time

Some Positions in Space and Time is a series of paintings exploring my
experience with typographic forms aligned with specific locations; street
names and neighbourhoods. In Western Neighbourhoods I pull analogue and
digital source images apart and segment them into layers of light and dark.
The use of these mediums embraces and connects the old and new; past and
present. Layers are printed and traced before being hand-cut with a small
blade, creating intricate and enigmatic stencils. The final forms exist in a
tension between figure and ground.

Casey Bailey – Eros and Thanatos

This showing concentrates on my oil paintings from the past year. Eros was
the god of love, is the drive of life, and sexuality, fertility, lust and passion in
ancient Greece.
Thanatos, from the Greek word for death is the drive of aggression, self
destruction, violence, and death.

These paintings are a collection of abstract
ideas, interplay, symbolism; a continuation of my process and techniques.

`Little by little, the bird makes its nest.’

Rebecca Stewart  – Side of the Sky

Rebecca Stewart's sculptural work delves deeply into the female experience,
weaving together themes of motherhood, sexuality, power, pain, and growth.
Through her art, she taps into the elemental and ancestral connections that
humans share with nature. “Side of the Sky” is the European translation of the
Maori name for Rangitata, the place where the natural elements of Stewarts
work have been sourced.  Over the past few years Stewart and her family
have stayed often at the North side of the river, combing the beaches and
finding inspiration that resonates with our primal instincts and historical roots.
Her work invites reflection on the complex interplay between gender, nature,
and the human condition, provoking a deeper understanding of our place in
the world and the forces that shape us.
