Julie Ross : Studio Antics

This salon-style body of work is typical of my surrealist approach to
subject matter:
I love to reference paintings from art history, and then introduce my
characters and quirks.
For example, the painting titled The Studio, depicts my twin-sister Marie, and I,
in my studio contemplating a drawing. The sculptures in the painting are
my own existing bronze and ceramic works.

Titles continue to be part of my inspiration for each painting. Often titles
precede the creation of the work. Venus and the Wall Flower, and Sir de
Fleur and his Flying Fox, started as fun titles/word combinations I felt the
need to create images for.

The title of my show, Studio Antics, is from the title of one of my featured
paintings. Based on the art work Las Meninas, (Diego Velazquez 1656)
this painting reflects my own antics as I replace figures and add to the
positive space within the artist’s studio.
The paintings are oil on wood. I consider the frames to be an extension
of the paintings.

Kim Hennessy : Six Moons and the Event Horizon

You like circles huh ?

White Bay Power Station

An industrial building
Enormous, clambering
Concrete and steel
Polished and ready

Inside, barely through the door, I meet
a hole –
Mid-height, black, dinner plate size
A portal connecting one room to another

The surrounding plaster
Painted and repainted
100 years.

Six Moons, a series inspired by my photographs of this hole. Clean and dusty, the hole was
blackness eternal. The edges, felted, escaping, gasses of an Event Horizon.

Event Horizon
The area around the edge of a black hole where everything we know ceases to exist.

Yeah, I guess I like circles.

Richard Adams :Moonlight

Richard Adams has been painting and exhibiting for over 40 years; his works
are held in New Zealand and international public and private art collections.
In this latest body of work Richard has been inspired by a recent trip to Oman
a journey referencing buildings, land, water and sky.

Moonlight, sunset and dreamy sunrise depicted with soft melon to pink tones,
instantly give a feeling of warmth and comfort.

Richard’s creations are juxtaposed vibrant colours that overlap and stimulate
with sweeping curves of deep ocher brown hues and primary colour blocks.
The geometric curves depict the movement of the light and shadow bouncing
off the pristine sandstone buildings.

The moonlight bouncing off the Ocean and land, rising deep into the sky
playing in the clouds, forming colour pallets of melon, pinks and misty grey
washes.

“ The moon puts on an elegant show, different every time in shape, colour and
nuance “
Arthur Smith ( American Poet )
