Monica Wang
Monica’s work explores diverse paint applications, pushing the limitations of the paint to create various surfaces, fluidities and textures.
Her practice is intuitive; letting each colour and shape respond to the demands of what went before. The gestural brushstrokes and the overlapping translucent layers create subtle shifts of chroma; combining with the
loose biomorphic forms, the work provides the space for imagination and interpretation.
Olivia Isabel Smith
My works are currently an exploration into how we arrange and organise objects. Also the idea of collections and collecting as a human – it seems to me as a way of finding identity but also to perhaps nest or store memories and ‘wealth’ – what we perceive to be worthy or beautiful. I am interested in the New Zealand landscape – having collected all the shells and rocks to use in my works from local beaches and rivers. I am also thinking about shrines, the human body (feminine forms in particular) and time.
Vicki Mangan Hollister
I am a painter who also uses printmaking methods to discover ways of looking at the often overlooked, instead focusing on the tension between line and gestural mass. This series uses liminal spaces such as kerbs and path-edges as subjects to explore ideas around unobserved temporal moments. By finding ways to retreat from the conventional aesthetics of the mimetic through the painterly application and removal of the medium, the eye is focused on the places between the organic and the constructed, where the ground is abstracted and the passages between also become the subject of the work.
