Balance is a series of works that are a continuing my concept of held space and ownership of self, that my last show boundaries explored. In this series of work I am looking at time, both past and present, bringing that past into the present (*Maori world view Ka mua, ka muri has informed practice) by looking at memories and playing with spatial arrangements/negitive positive spacing.During masters (2020) I tried to abstract forms in a systematic manner/ gradual approach. The work in this show is largely abstract forms, and I am now enjoying a much more intuitive approach to the making of work. I feel the work in this show is as close as I have come to the blending of both process and concept.The work in balance is mostly very colourful. I have used a lot of chalk pastel as I can create very raw and fresh marks, and also blend to create areas of high detail/ interest.
