“Mike –  a fantasy” .

Doc Ross
The series started in my mind when I was walking the city after the earthquakes photographing people daily. After a while I started seeing a few people every day, some I would say hello to after a while, but beyond that, as with everyone we see on the street that we don’t know, I knew nothing about them at all, how their lives played out, what they did, what challenges they faced etc. As I would see them in different clothes and moods etc I realised I was slowly building an image of these people in my mind that was really just pure fantasy. Near the end of the book/series Mike transitions to Mikaela.
The pictures are all pigment prints on rag paper with a photograph as the base of the background, the silhouettes are drawn digitally.
Odette and William Series

Philip Trusttum
Odette and William, tried out the masks I had bought at South City $2 shop. I photographed them, then used the images
to inspire my paintings.
Salon des Animaux
Julie Ross

Salon Des Animaux (Animal Salon) is a body of work reflecting my passion for animals, art historical paintings and story telling.

Salon references the 17th century Paris Salons. These early salons were fraught with artistic prejudice, judgment and passion. Before long they were suitably challenged by break-away salons such as Salon des Refuses. I am fascinated by the drama and culture of the European art world during the 15th – 19th century, and see similarities in todays’ art society.

The technique of gesso-transfer onto wood allows me to overtly reference historical paintings and their stories. The added oil-painting transforms them into my own aesthetic and narrative interpretation.
