Born in New Zealand, Hannah Batty studied at the University of Canterbury with a focus on drawing and mixed media work. Batty’s practice involves methodically investigating line, form and space through drawing, she is influenced by architectural drafting and modelling, investigating shifting perspectives.

Recent works simultaneously create a mapped surface and model, a conflict between plan and perspective. Their surface, or lack thereof, allows the perceived dimension to vary creating unexpected and challenging relationships. Overt shadows influence the understanding of form placing an ambiguous importance upon the form itself while compounding the sense of polarity between line and space.
