SOPHIE WRIGHT

Sophie Wright is an artist based in Ōtautahi Christchurch, Aotearoa New Zealand. She has a
Bachelor of Fine Arts (HONS) from Ilam School of Fine Arts.
At the core of Sophie’s paintings is an understanding of psychological and emotional
differences within individuals. Her works explore self and being, focusing on how she
perceives the world. Informed by synesthetic perceptions, her works extend beyond the
actual physical space they occupy; while appearing abstract, they read as depictions.
Capturing sound visually, she transforms experiences into visual fields of colour.
Working with a diverse range of mediums, she embraces untraditional approaches and
blending techniques. While mostly working with paints, she also works closely with sound.
Pulling essence from her surroundings, laying it out visually. Obtaining the essence of her
surroundings to help her comprehend the richness of existence. She enriches her creative
process through research and philosophies, as she values the interplay between concept and
execution.
