Artists

Ria Fitzgerald is an Ōtautahi Christchurch based artist and University of Canterbury School of Fine
Arts graduate whose practice is immersed in Waitaha Canterbury’s Gothic landscape where spectral
visages, antagonists and omens coalesce in amongst foreboding ground steeped in macabre
histories. Within these grounds their practice explores the relationship between land and history
while investigating what lies beyond closed doors.
As a painter, they utilise oil paint and age-old painting mediums such as egg tempera to convey
narrative rich work imbued with Semantics – the language of symbols that of which prevail within the
veiled realms of occult and esoteric studies.
