Artist Biography
Amanda Beddis is primarily a realist figurative painter and self-portraitist based in Canterbury. Amanda’s work centres, explores and openly confronts the female body and experience. Her self-portraits utilise her own image to investigate social issues, norms, and associated emotional states, all from a woman’s perspective.
Beddis holds a MFA (First class honours) (2010) and a BFA (2008) from Whitecliffe College, Auckland. She taught secondary school Visual Art from 2012 to 2024, refocusing on her painting practice in 2025. Solo exhibitions include ‘Portraits of the Artist’ (2008) at CoCA, Christchurch, and ‘Great Expectations’, her MFA graduating show in Auckland (2010).
