Artist Biography

Born in Lower Hutt, Viv Kepes moved to Canterbury in 1996. Developing a love of the outdoors from an early age, she draws extensively on the natural world in her paintings and enjoys rendering organic forms found in nature. Her lifelong interest in science means she likes to retain some figurative aspects of her subjects before she allows them to dissipate into atmospheric haze. The work becomes an immersive experience with intimate details from the natural world. Kepes’ works are often painterly, sensory, experiences about the colour and beauty of small organic structures. Kepes has an MFA from the University of Canterbury School of Fine Arts, a BSc from Victoria University of Wellington, and is completing her Master of Arts in Creative Arts Therapy (Clinical) at Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design, Auckland.
