Artist Biography

Stanley Palmer, Moturoa - Cathedral Rock - Ahuahu

Exhibiting since the late 1950s, printmaker and painter Stanley Palmer is nationally recognised for his lithographs, monoprints, paintings and bamboo engravings of the New Zealand landscape. Central to his depiction of the West and East coasts of New Zealand has been his interest in conservation and New Zealanders’ relationship with the land. Working in remote parts of Northland and the West Coast, his paintings capture a sense of isolation and the volatility of humanity’s place in the landscape. Palmer’s work is held in all major public collections including the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa.
