Artist Biography





Janneth Gil is a Colombian-born New Zealander with Engineering and Master of Fine Arts (Distinction) degrees. She specializes in using art, photography, collaborative practices, community engagement and a broad range of artistic processes tools for positive social change and well-being. Her work focuses on making an impact on problems that rise from discrimination, hoping to encourage the community to consider dialogue, tolerance, inclusivity and maintaining an informed, empathetic, socially and environmentally conscious society.

Her work is held in the collections of the Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū, The Canterbury Museum, and The Christchurch City Libraries Ngā Kete Wānanga o Ōtautahi, and has been exhibited throughout New Zealand. Additionally, her work has been featured in various media formats, including television documentaries and interviews, newspapers, magazines, and other outlets across New Zealand and internationally.

In addition to her artistic pursuits, she is part of on the Christchurch City Council’s Multicultural Advisory Group, co-founded Pemphigus New Zealand, and advocates for people with rare disorders.
She is also a recipient of several awards such as the Kiwibank New Zealander of the Year Local Hero
