Artist Biography
Jacqueline Spencer-Macleod has recently been honing her skills as a representative Portrait Artist of New Zealand women. Her ‘Femmes de Force’ in working towards two new Solo Shows this year, are to be held in Christchurch and Auckland. Jacqueline has prior to this, followed careers in both Engineering as a Computer Artwork Designer, Electrical Draughtsperson and a passionate educator of Gifted and Talented Girls in Education.
Jacqueline employs oil on linen as her main materiality, using expressive gestural brushstrokes that capture the colour aura, power and personal iconography that captures the spirit and essence of each woman. She attended Massey University studying Fine Arts and Gifted (and Talented Education) majoring in Bronze with Paul Dibble, and majored in Painting in her Final 4th year. Macleod found specific interest in further studying a Masters of Education at University of Canterbury in Gifted and Talented Education (Women in Fine Arts.) This then enabled her to focus on her Portrait work based around NZ Women’s Identity, resulting in successive multiple selected shows based in Auckland and as a Finalist for a number of Arts Awards.
Spencer-Macleod has exhibited Nationally and Internationally. Her work is held in a number of selected public and private collections, including in the Wallace Arts Trust Auckland, Marlborough, London and Indonesia.
