Artist Biography
Gaby Reade, of Polish and German descent, immigrated to Aotearoa / New Zealand in 1986 and is based in Ōtautahi/Christchurch.
She works in printmaking and paints in oil.
Her work reflects upon the symbiotic relationship of insects and plants, and is an ongoing tribute to their habitat and conservation. She highlights and celebrates the precarious balance of nature, and the beauty of patterns to be found in the world small creatures inhabit.
In addition she draws on the rich traditional world of storytelling she was brought up in, focusing on the unabridged fairy tales collected and published during the 19th century by the brothers Grimm.
She is a member of Print Council Aotearoa New Zealand and the Critique Group Ōtautahi / Christchurch, where peer reviewing each others work and creating a supportive network amongst artists is the core principle.
